Research and Rubrics

The Ministry and the leadership of Saskatchewan Reads was interested in the implementation of Saskatchewan Reads. Dr. Jim Jutras conducted a formative research study around the implementation efforts of three school divisions.

The purpose of the study was to:
•  determine progress in implementation of Saskatchewan Reads,
•  identify the challenges of implementation,
•  identify exemplary classroom and leadership practices,
•  determine the value and impact of Saskatchewan Reads,
•  make recommendations for next steps in implementing Saskatchewan Reads.

There are two versions of the final report of this appreciative research study:

The executive version of the report offers a concise review of the purpose and conduct of the study, its general findings, and recommendations for the next steps of implementation. An extended version offers a more in-depth discussion of the findings and their connection to the recommendations, as well as additional positive exemplars and sub-recommendations.

Executive version of the report (pdf)

The extended version will be of most interest to Ministry staff and those who lead school division reading teams.

Rubrics were developed to determine key classroom and leadership practices. These rubrics are for teachers and leaders who wish to use them for reflection and for the self-assessment of their classroom and leadership practices.
